Robert Marcial is a Program Manager within PG&E’s Energy Efficiency Workforce Education and Training (WE&T) Program. The WE&T Program offers technical training and resources to support the California energy workforce in designing, building, operating, and maintaining energy efficient buildings. Robert oversees several programs, including Commercial Food Service Training, the Induction Cooktop Loaner Program, Building Operator Certification training, as well as the Statewide Third-Party Career and Workforce Readiness program that supports disadvantaged workers in entering the energy efficiency workforce. He is also the Electrification lead for WE&T and lead author for PG&E’s WE&T Business Plan. Robert has a graduate and undergraduate degree in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley and has taught at UC Berkeley, at the PG&E Pacific Energy Center, and at various schools of architecture domestically and abroad. Robert serves on several advisory boards for the arts, education, and community-based non-profit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Robert and his family are in the process of fully electrifying their home and vehicles.

Buildings are Getting Smarter – Workforce Development Opportunities
The scale of smart technology adoption hinges in part on a sufficiently capable workforce. This session will highlight initiatives addressing the need for skilled facilities professionals and building operators to run complex, smart, connected, high performing buildings. Panelists will discuss opportunities to improve workforce diversity through initiatives that address barriers to entry and strengthen pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and training programs to help connect participants to high-quality building operations and maintenance careers.
